While a player’s on field performance is not the main point of the Walter Payton Man of the Year award is considered one of the most prestigious in the NFL. The award — named after Walter Payton’s death in 1977 — recognizes a player’s positive impact in his community as well as his excellence on the field.
This year, the award went to Arik Armstead of the Jacksonville Jaguars who’s work is focused on giving kids educational opportunities in his hometown of Sacramento as well as helping the with the Jags initiatives like “Storytime with Arik Armstead,” and “Touchdowns for Tomorrow,” to help raise both literacy and financial literacy.
