For those unfamiliar with the reality TV family, a federal judge sentenced Todd and Julie to a combined 19-year prison sentence in 2022 over bank and tax fraud charges.

Since reporting to prison in 2023, Todd and Julie have not spoken “a word” to each other, and in a new interview, Savannah Chrisley has revealed just how difficult that’s been for her family.

After being found guilty on several charges in 2022, Todd and Julie turned themselves in to the Bureau of Prisons in 2023 to begin their nearly 20-year sentence.

Since then, Todd and Julie’s children, specifically Savannah, have been outspoken about the case and their feelings about the government.

However, in a new interview, Savannah changed gears to share an update about her parents’ relationship.

During a conversation with PEOPLE, the reality star and former pageant queen revealed that her parents haven’t been allowed to communicate with each other.

“They don’t get to speak,” she said before sharing that it’s “been two years” since the married couple have “spoken a word to each other.”

Todd and Julie have been married just shy of 30 years and, according to their daughter, have “never gone a day in their life without being with one another.”

“That’s been a challenge,” Savannah added before saying situations like this “should never happen.”

Elsewhere in her interview, Savannah explained that the prison system has made it nearly “impossible” for her parents to connect. “They don’t make anything easy,” she said before alleging that employees at her dad’s facility have interfered with his mail.

“There was mail theft and fraud at my dad’s facility that I’m still not going to allow that person to get away with,” she said.

In addition to her parents’ ongoing legal battles, Savannah has also been open about how challenging it has been to raise two children by herself.

Since her parents were taken into custody, Savannah has stepped up to become the legal guardian of her younger siblings, Grayson and Chloe Chrisley.

In another interview with PEOPLE, Savannah revealed how taking on two children came as a surprise to her before explaining how much she’s “struggled” trying to make things happen.

“I wasn’t expecting to get two kids,” she said. “So, between that, legal expenses to fight for my parents, I am just like anyone else out here. Sure, I put a smile on my face. I look the part, I play the part. But it doesn’t mean I actually am the part. You fake it till you make it. That’s the world that we live in.”

Todd Speaks Out About Life In Prison

Although locked behind bars at the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida, Todd hasn’t stayed quiet about life in his orange jumpsuit.

During a conversation with former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo on NewsNation, the former “Chrisley Knows Best” star blasted his employees for keeping inmates in a “disgustingly filthy” facility.

He also slammed them for underfeeding the men he’s been stowed away with. “The food is literally—I’m not exaggerating—is out of date by minimum a year,” he said.

“They are literally starving these men to death here. These men are getting, I don’t know, but they’re getting a thousand calories a day,” he finished.

Todd’s oldest son, Chase Chrisley, shared something similar in 2023 when he revealed that his dad was living with “black mold” while his mother was without “air conditioning.”

Todd and Julie aren’t the only Chrisleys dealing with law enforcement. In January 2025, Chase was arrested and charged with “simple assault” after allegedly striking a bar manager in the face in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to the report, the reality star got “really drunk,” causing him to “act very disrespectful and belligerent.”

Chase left the scene before police officers arrived but was later booked and released on a $10,000 bond.

He denied his involvement and the claims that he assaulted anyone during an interview with the DailyMail, saying the situation has been “blown out of proportion” due to his reality TV fame.

“I didn’t slap that dude in Atlanta,” he said. “That didn’t happen. If I was [going to] put my hand on somebody, I would get my money’s worth. I wouldn’t just get a slap.”

“If I wasn’t who I was, that wouldn’t have been a situation,” he finished.
