Kim Kardashian Reveals Partly Funding Ex-Husband’s Proposal

On “The Kardashians,” she revealed that her ex did not fully cover the cost of her lavish engagement ring; she helped pay for it herself. Even more shocking? Humphries took the ring back after their split.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries first got together in 2010, and their whirlwind romance led to a highly publicized wedding in 2011. However, their marriage famously ended after just 72 days.

Despite living much of her life in the spotlight, Kim has rarely spoken about her short-lived marriage to Humphries, until now.

During a conversation with her younger sister, Khloé, Kim finally opened up about her past engagement rings, revealing a surprising twist about the one Humphries gave her. She no longer has the massive sparkler because he took it back during their divorce.

But here is the twist: Kim claims she actually paid for most of the extravagant piece, with the former NBA player covering only about a fifth of the cost. The revelation shocked her close friend, Chris Appleton, calling Humphries “savage.”

TMZ reports that Humphries popped the question with an 18-carat emerald-cut diamond from Lorraine Schwartz, a significant upgrade from the 14-carat cushion-cut ring Kim received from her first husband, Damon Thomas.

Kim and the former athlete first crossed paths in 2010, thanks to his New Jersey Nets teammate Jordan Farmar, who introduced them in New York.

In May 2011, Humphries proposed with a dazzling 18-carat emerald-cut diamond, and by August, the couple said “I do” in a lavish ceremony that aired as “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding” on E! in October. 

However, just weeks after the special premiered, Kardashian filed for divorce, ending their marriage after only 72 days. US Weekly reported that tensions were building even before the split.

A source claimed the couple was “not getting along at all,” adding that Humphries was not “drinking the Kardashian Kool-Aid.” Meanwhile, a family friend revealed that Kim felt she had made a mistake.

Humphries responded by filing for an annulment in November 2011, accusing Kim of marrying him solely for TV ratings. 

Their divorce trial was set to begin in February 2013, but before it reached the courtroom, they settled in April, and it was finalized by July. An insider told the outlet that “there was no fraud, and the judge urged Kris to settle.”

After their 2013 divorce, Kim looked back a few years later, admitting that she rushed into marriage because she felt like she was falling behind. During a 2017 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Kim confessed:

“I just thought, ‘Holy s–t, I’m 30 years old, I better get this together. I better get married,'” she noted, before adding, “But I knew on the honeymoon it wasn’t going to work out.”

By 2021, Kim opened up even more during the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” reunion, revealing that her mom, Kris Jenner, actually gave her an out before the wedding.

However, she did not want to back out and be labeled a “runaway bride.” Despite the messy split, the actress admitted she “handled it totally the wrong way” and owed her ex an apology.

Since then, Kim has built an empire and is now venturing into a new role, momager. The mother-of-four has shifted her focus to managing the budding career of her eldest daughter, North West, embracing the same hands-on approach her own mother famously perfected.

The Blast reports that Kris is more than happy to watch her daughter take on the challenge, especially since it comes with its own set of struggles. 

A source revealed that the 69-year-old secretly enjoys seeing Kim experience just how exhausting the job can be. “She’s pretty happy that Kim’s getting a taste of what it’s like and how exhausting it is,” the insider shared.

Apparently, Kim has already started venting about how much of her time is consumed by managing North’s schedule, even turning to Kris for guidance. The insider added that Kris is excited to see Kim follow in her footsteps and is eager to share her expertise.

As the eldest child of Kim and Kanye’ Ye’ West, North’s natural charisma and larger-than-life personality have already captured the public’s attention. So it makes sense that Kim is taking an active role in shaping her daughter’s future.

In an episode of “World’s First Podcast” hosted by Sara and Erin Foster, the TV personality opened up about how she’s guiding North through early career decisions. 

Kim revealed that every opportunity, whether it is a photoshoot or another high-profile gig, is carefully considered as a family. Concerning her thoughts on her kids possibly feeling pressure to follow in their parents’ footsteps, Kim acknowledged the reality of their situation.

“I can’t, like … they’re already in it, right? Because just of who their parents are. And so I try to protect that and be so mindful of them being their own people and them not feeling like they have to, you know, be in our shadows,” she stated.

With these revelations, Kim Kardashian is finally closing the chapter on the lesser-known part of her whirlwind marriage to Kris Humphries.
