King Charles III was briefly hospitalized amid his ongoing cancer treatment but has since resumed duties.

According to reports, the British monarch had to be checked due to side effects of his treatment.

Diagnosed in February 2024, he remains optimistic, with Queen Camilla as a key support. King Charles plans to proceed with an April state visit to Italy despite his health struggles.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles was taken to a hospital due to temporary side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment.

A spokesperson stated: “Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,”

They added that as a precaution on medical advice, “His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were therefore postponed.”

“His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result,” the statement continued, per Page Six.

Since his cancer diagnosis last year, his schedule has been carefully planned in coordination with his doctors to ensure his health remains the top priority.

When Charles returned to Clarence House following his short stay at the hospital, it was confirmed that the King was in good shape, with a spokesperson sharing that he intends to continue his duty as soon as possible.

“His majesty was due to receive credentials from the ambassadors of three different nations this afternoon,” the spokesperson said, per The Guardian. “Tomorrow he was due to undertake four public engagements in Birmingham, and is greatly disappointed to be missing them on this occasion.”

“He very much hopes that they can [be] rescheduled in due course and offers his deepest apologies to all those who had worked so hard to make the planned visit possible,” they added.

Charles’ cancer diagnosis was first revealed in February 2024 following treatment for a benign enlarged prostate.

At the time, Buckingham Palace confirmed that “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” though they have not disclosed specific details.

The King expressed gratitude to his medical team and remained optimistic about his treatment. In October 2024, Charles reportedly paused treatment briefly for an 11-day royal visit to Australia.

Despite his recent hospitalization, his planned state visit to Italy in April is still expected to proceed.

According to The Sun, during a recent visit to Northern Ireland, Charles III shared words of encouragement with cancer patients, advising them to “keep b-ggering on,” referencing Winston Churchill’s famous phrase.

Throughout Charles’ cancer journey, his wife, Queen Camilla, has been a steadfast source of support for him, standing by the monarch during his tour of Australia and set to accompany him on his upcoming trip to Italy.

Commentator Jennie Bond recently noted that Camilla has given Charles a “new perspective” on life.

“Since marrying Camilla, I think Charles has had a new perspective on life: one in which the glass tends to be half full rather than half empty,” she said, per The Mirror.

Bond added: “And, cancer or not, I think that’s how he’ll approach the rest of his reign: full of optimism that he can achieve some of his goals and make a lasting impression in the role he waited so long to assume.”

Earlier this month, Charles surprised royal fans as he revealed his musical tastes extend far beyond his well-known love for 1970s soul trio “The Three Degrees” as he became the first British monarch to release a podcast, launching an Apple Music special that showcases music from across the Commonwealth.

Recorded in his personal office at Buckingham Palace, “The King’s Music” Room features a diverse selection, from 1930s crooners to Afrobeat stars.

The playlist includes artists like Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, Nigerian singer Davido, and Brit Award winner Raye.

Before its release, Apple teased that the selection would “surprise and delight music fans everywhere,” offering a glimpse into a more personal side of Charles III.

In his introduction, the King reflected on the profound impact of music, stating, “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in time.”
