Giants reportedly ‘love’ QB prospect other than Shedeur Sanders

Back on March 28, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller revealed that the New York Giants “loving” Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was “the worst-kept secret in the league” as the Giants continue to contemplate how they will spend the third overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.

According to a mock draft produced by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic that was published on Wednesday, the Giants would take Miami’s Cam Ward over Sanders if Big Blue instead of the Tennessee Titans possessed the first choice of the upcoming player-selection process.

“I’ve heard since bowl season from folks inside the Miami program that the New York Giants love Ward,” Feldman wrote, “but the Titans have a big need too and won’t pass on the 2024 ACC Player of the Year.”

It was reported in late March that the Titans want three first-round picks “or something of that value” to give up the right to select Ward. As of the first Wednesday of April, neither the Giants nor any other club was expected to match that asking price.

“No way they are not picking Ward,” one unnamed team executive said about the Titans during a recent chat with The Athletic’s Mike Sando. “They are trying to drum up an extraordinary deal, but no one is going to give that. They will take Cam Ward unless someone gives them something stupid.”

Unless the Browns are willing to do “something stupid” to get Ward, they reportedly could take either Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter or Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter via the draft’s second pick. Such a scenario would allow the Giants to either get Sanders without having to give up additional assets or grab a Day 1 starter (Hunter or Carter).

Perhaps Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are among those within the league who allegedly would rather take Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart later in the draft than select Sanders at pick No. 3. On Wednesday, Ryan Novozinsky of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com speculated that the Giants could make Hunter the third pick and then trade back into the first round to land Dart at choice No. 27.

However, some think the Pittsburgh Steelers would select Dart if he fell to the draft’s 21st overall pick.
