Weezer still set to play Coachella after police shoot wife of bassist

Weezer will go through with its gig at the Coachella music festival this weekend in the wake of Los Angeles police wounding the wife of bassist Scott Shriner, a source close to the band told NBC News on Thursday.

The venerable rock band is still slated to play its scheduled show at the Mojave stage at 3:10 p.m. on Saturday — about 96 hours after officers shot author Jillian Shriner.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the band’s scheduled appearance will include the veteran bass player.

Law enforcement had rushed to the Eagle Rock neighborhood of L.A., just north of downtown, looking for three people who had jumped out of a car involved in a hit-and-run on the nearby Ventura Freeway.

Police scouring the neighborhood came upon an armed Jillian Shriner in her yard and she didn’t immediately comply with officers’ orders to drop her weapon, authorities said.

The musician’s wife, who played no role in the hit-and-run incident, was then shot in the shoulder before she was taken to hospital and booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

It still wasn’t clear on Thursday if she’d hired or been assigned a criminal defense attorney.

Shriner is a journalist and author of several books, including “Behold the Monster: Confronting America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer.”
