    Re: “Sound Transit light rail’s impossible time horizons” (May 21, Local News):

    I was once talking to a couple who had moved from Seattle to Minnesota. I mentioned how wonderful the light rail in Seattle was. They told me they had voted for Sound Transit in the ’90s and were glad to hear that people were enjoying the system 30 years later.

    It is a virtue to plant trees under which you will never sit. But Seattle should not demand selflessness from its voters. Where did the time go? What were the bottlenecks, in detail? How can voters or legislators make future projects faster? What trade-offs do our laws make? I wish there was more reporting on this. We need to make speed a part of good governance.
