Terry McLaurin reportedly frustrated with Commanders

Terry McLaurin is reportedly unhappy with the Washington Commanders as the start of mandatory minicamp quickly approaches.

McLaurin is entering the final year of his contract, and the star wide receiver may be headed for a holdout. Jordan Schultz of Fox reported on Thursday that McLaurin has expressed frustration with the Commanders over the lack of progress that has been made toward a long-term extension.

Schultz adds that there has been “minimal” discussion between McLaurin and the team about a new deal.

McLaurin signed a three-year, $68 million extension with Washington in 2022. His $23.2 million average annual salary places him outside of the top 15 highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.

McLaurin has had five consecutive seasons with 1,000-plus receiving yards, which is why he feels he deserves a significant raise. He had 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns last season.

The Commanders acquired Deebo Samuel in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, so McLaurin could have some competition for the No. 1 spot in the passing game this year.

Washington also made a generous move with Samuel’s contract after trading for him, though he is also set to become a free agent after the season.

McLaurin initially reported to voluntary offseason workouts but then left, so it is possible he was optimistic about getting a new contract at some point. The situation will now be one to monitor with minicamp set to begin on Wednesday.
