Michelle Williams Says She Still Has ‘Trauma’ From Infamous Fall On ‘106 & Park’

Although the Destiny’s Child reunion went off without a hitch, Williams revealed she was worried about falling, citing the lingering trauma of her infamous 2004 trip-and-fall on the BET show “106 & Park.”

“I was trying to stay focused because y’all know I’m still … I have trauma from falling on 106 & Park,” she said. “I need y’all to be my therapist about that, too. Because every time I perform with the girls, it’s in my head.”

“Do not fall,” she said, “Do not fall.”

And she wasn’t alone in her thinking. Several fans chimed in on social media after the footage went viral, commenting something similar.

“I love me some Michelle, but it looks like she still watches her step after all these years,” one user wrote, while another posted, “Poor Michelle has PTSD from falling.”

Many other users chimed in to defend the “Say Yes” singer, with one user posting, “Hating on Michelle from your coach is insane.”

Others wrote about how excited they were to see the iconic girl group back together.

“THE GIRLS!!! BLACK don’t crack. COME ON BLACK WOMEN! I loveeeeeee,” another user posted.

“This is the example of sisterhood amongst Black women,” they continued. “They all support each other. They show up for each other. They don’t let negative comments break them apart. When God allows it, they shine together!”

Elsewhere, during the podcast, Williams shared that she was able to work with Ty Hunter, who also styled Destiny’s Child, on her wardrobe for her “Cowboy Carter” appearance.

“I said, ‘Ty, we need to cut these fringes off the bottom of these pants so I don’t fall,'” she recalled before making another unexpected revelation.

“Steps do frighten me,” she said. “Did I rehearse them steps? Sure did. And then when it came to, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you dummy.’ You let fear or lack of trust on that first step.”

Williams added that another reason she focused so intently on her footing is that she didn’t want to become the internet’s latest meme all over again.

“I’m not [going to] let social media do me,” she joked. “Because if that were to happen and I fell, I would not be able to live that down for the next 20 years.”

Williams Has Moved On From Her Destiny’s Child Fall

Years ago, in a 2014 interview with TIME, Williams addressed the infamous fall, insisting she had moved on from the on-stage mishap.

“Really great things have happened since then for me, but because of YouTube and stuff like that, it lives on forever,” she said. “Regardless of what people think or say about me, I am always blessed. The fact that people sit and search for this stuff, I am on your mind day and night. So I thank you so much for making me relevant every single day… Thank you so much, my accounts are bigger because of you.”

Destiny’s Child Reunited For The First Time In Seven Years

Since releasing their final album in 2004 and concluding their last tour in 2006, Destiny’s Child has reunited on several different occasions.

During Beyoncé’s 2013 Super Bowl performance, the group shared the stage to sing songs like “Single Ladies” and “Independent Women.”

In 2018, they took the stage once more for Beyoncé’s Coachella performance, which has since been dubbed “Beychella.” There, they sang hits, including “Say My Name” and “Soldier.”

As part of the final “Cowboy Carter” show, the trio gathered to sing a medley including their hit “Bootylicious” and part of Beyoncé’s song “ENERGY” from her 2022 album, “RENAISSANCE.”

On Instagram, Williams responded to the fans jokingly expressing their rage with the singer for keeping the DC reunion under wraps.
