Dominant defensive performance lifts Seahawks over Texans

The Seattle Seahawks flexed their muscle with a dominant defensive performance in a 27-19 win over the Houston Texans in the second game of a “Monday Night Football” doubleheader.

Here are four takeaways from the final NFL game of Week 7:

Seahawks defense has its way with abysmal Texans offense

In a game in which both teams went a combined 4-for-29 on third down, it was the Seahawks defense that stepped up and completely took over the game. Following the fourth turnover of the game from Seattle’s offense, the defense came up with a turnover on downs after Houston had the ball within the one-yard line with just over five minutes to play and nearly got another stop on the following drive.

Seattle made the Texans offense one-dimensional, holding them to just 56 rushing yards. Quarterback C.J. Stroud was just 23-of-49 for 229 yards with one TD and one interception and had little time to operate in the pocket all night, getting sacked three times.

The Seahawks entered the night allowing the sixth-fewest points per game (19.5) and they showed why in a dominant performance. Had the offense been able to close the game out sooner without the turnovers, it would have been even more lopsided than the final score would indicate.

Pass protection woes continue for Texans

Coming into Monday night’s game, Houston had only allowed 12 sacks all season after accounting for the third-most (54) one year ago. It was a struggle all night long for the Texans offensive line, which allowed three sacks.

While this did not end up in a sack, the pressure from Seattle’s defense led to a Stroud interception less than a minute into the second half.
