Re: “Trump takes a victory lap in Israel after peace deal” (Oct. 14, Nation & World):
I compliment President Donald Trump and his team for getting the remaining hostages back for Israel. Whether or not it is the end of “terror and death” in the Middle East as he predicts, only a lot of time will tell. The Nobel Peace Prize that he feels strongly belongs in the White House with his name on it may be appropriate in the next five to10 years if peace persists, Gaza is rebuilt and Middle East countries demonstrate they can peacefully coexist.
In the meantime, if Trump really wants to challenge himself as a peace maker, he should try out his skills on the partisan factions in his own country, a country that used to be the richest, most powerful and most respected democracy in the world. Isn’t that one of the fundamental responsibilities of our president? Aren’t we stronger together? Through compromise and debate we all make better decisions.
