Re: “ ‘No Kings’ rally draws crowd over a mile long” (Oct. 19, A1):
President Donald Trump believes in onshoring manufacturing, control of illegal immigration, decreasing government spending, extrajudicial prevention of drug-trafficking, traditional law and order in our cities, defederalization of K-12 education and a race-blind society. It’s reasonable to disagree with any of these positions and his political methods. But he is trying to solve problems, and calling him names and wearing funny hats isn’t as effective a strategy as coming up with an alternative set of solutions.
When he sets back Tehran’s nuclear weapons program or negotiates a peace settlement in Gaza, single-minded, small-minded opposition to all things Trump suggests Democrats value personal contempt over the legitimate security interests of the United States and the ending of human suffering. Even the “No Kings” moniker signals a break from reality, since he was duly elected, has ceded power once and is term limited.
Until the Democrats embrace the interests of the American people and reality, they’ll remain the minority opposition, holding parades in the cold rain.
