Sydney Sweeney surprised millions of viewers when she appeared during Fox’s pregame coverage of the World Series on Tuesday night.

The “Euphoria” actress delivered a cinematic introduction before Game 4, but what was meant to be a creative sports moment quickly turned into an online argument.

Within minutes, social media was divided, with many criticizing her performance and others turning it into a political debate that had little to do with baseball.

Sydney Sweeney’s Unexpected World Series Appearance

Fans watching the World Series were caught off guard when Sydney Sweeney appeared on screen to narrate Fox’s Game 4 intro.

Wearing a red dress and a short blonde hairstyle, she delivered a dramatic message before the game began.

“Given the setting,” she said, “it would be appropriate to dust the story with movie magic, right? Why not romanticize a bit?”

The clip showed Sweeney walking on set while continuing, “Winning… real winning, isn’t polished. It’s earned. It’s everything you can’t fake. It’s beautiful on its own. Let’s just save the Hollywood for the ending. Welcome to Game 4 of the World Series on Fox.”

The brief appearance quickly drew reactions from viewers who weren’t expecting to see a Hollywood actress during a major sports broadcast.

As soon as the segment aired, social media was filled with comments.

Many viewers questioned why Sydney Sweeney had been chosen to introduce the game.

“Why is Sydney Sweeney narrating my pregame hype video?” one person wrote on X per the Daily Mail.

Another added, “The only thing more wooden than Sydney Sweeney’s delivery of that World Series hype spot is an actual baseball bat.”

A third person commented, “Take Sydney Sweeney off my screen for the World Series.”

Some viewers expressed frustration, saying the introduction felt out of place.

Others turned it into a political argument, with one user writing, “Every liberal watching the World Series just lost their sh-t when Sydney Sweeney showed up. Gotta love it.”

Another added, “Get ready for the liberal meltdown. Should be good for a laugh.”

Sydney Sweeney’s History Of Public Controversy

Sweeney’s appearance at the World Series isn’t the first time she has found herself at the center of public debate.

In July, she fronted an American Eagle jeans campaign that caused backlash over its “good genes” slogan.

In the ad, Sweeney said, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”

Critics claimed the ad used language linked to eugenics and racial superiority, with Columbia University lecturer Sayantani DasGupta calling it “really imbued with eugenic messaging.”

He noted that the pun couldn’t be separated from the history of racial and genetic superiority narratives.

Others dismissed the controversy, calling it an overreaction.

“Christy” isn’t the only project Sweeney is excited about.

The actress is stepping into old Hollywood, and she couldn’t be more thrilled.

As The Blast reported, the Hollywood star revealed she’s “so excited” to meet screen legend Kim Novak before portraying her in “Scandalous!,” the upcoming biopic about Novak’s controversial 1950s romance with Sammy Davis Jr.

Sweeney told PEOPLE she feels “incredibly honored” to bring Novak’s story to life, calling it a timeless tale of love, fame, and courage.

“I’m so excited. I’m like, ‘Oh my God. I’m going to meet Kim Novak,’” she gushed.

The 28-year-old said Novak’s struggles with Hollywood’s double standards still resonate today, making the project deeply personal.

Directed by Colman Domingo in his feature debut, the film marks a bold new chapter for Sweeney, who plans to dive fully into the role after wrapping “Euphoria” Season 3.

With her signature intensity and charm, she’s ready to capture the beauty and heartbreak behind one of Hollywood’s most forbidden love stories.
