CFP rankings: Top five unchanged; Texas Tech plays spoiler

The second College Football Playoff rankings of the 2025 season were released on Tuesday night with Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia remaining in the top five.

Fresh off its dominant 29-7 win over then-No.7 BYU, Texas Tech jumps two spots to No. 6, ahead of Ole Miss, Oregon, Notre Dame and Texas in the top 10.

The Red Raiders and Fighting Irish are the only two programs inside the top 10 that are not from the Big Ten or SEC as both conferences continue to flex their muscle.

Texas Tech makes climb in second CFP rankings; Indiana remains at No. 2 after dramatic win

Here is a look at what the 12-team bracket would look like as of Tuesday:

The biggest takeaway is the position Texas Tech finds itself in at No. 6 and the fact that Indiana remains at No. 2 despite needing a last-second TD to take down Penn State.

Miami sits at No. 15 as the highest-ranked ACC team, ahead of No. 16 Georgia Tech, No. 19 Virginia, No. 20 Louisville and No. 22 Pittsburgh.

The five highest-ranked conference champions are guaranteed to make the 12-team field, so the Hurricanes would move to the 11-seed, just in front of No. 24 South Florida, which would inherit the No. 12 seed as the highest-ranked Group of Five team. No. 11 Oklahoma is currently the first team out following the second reveal.

There are still three weeks of the regular season to play, so a lot can change between now and the official reveal of the 12-team field on Dec. 7. On Saturday, three crucial ranked matchups will have a huge say in how teams are seeded and which ones may be eliminated altogether after Week 12.

In the SEC, No. 11 Oklahoma faces No. 4 Alabama and No. 10 Texas squares off with No. 5 Georgia. The Crimson Tide and Bulldogs will likely still be in contention even with a second loss, but a third defeat for the Sooners or Longhorns will all but end their playoff hopes without some chaos in the closing weeks.

No. 9 Notre Dame travels to face No. 22 Pittsburgh in the first of three ranked matchups in the final three weeks for the Panthers. A third Notre Dame loss would prove costly, but everything is in front of Pittsburgh with No. 16 Georgia Tech and No. 15 Miami to close out the season.

Either way you look at it, there is plenty left to be decided on the field and more changes on the way as some teams try to solidify their positioning and others simply try to keep their playoff hopes alive.
