Melissa McCarthy made a triumphant return to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, and the internet can’t stop talking about her stunning transformation. The 55-year-old actress, who has reportedly dropped nearly 95 pounds, stepped onto the legendary Studio 8H stage in a sleek black velvet jumpsuit that highlighted her noticeably slimmer frame. Hosting the show for the sixth time, McCarthy delivered humor, high energy, and the kind of magnetic presence fans have missed. But it was her physical transformation that sent social media into overdrive.

Social Media Explodes With Praise For Melissa McCarthy’s Stunning ‘SNL’ Transformation

Viewers flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to share their shock and admiration after seeing McCarthy’s new look on screen, with many praising her dramatic transformation in real time. Comments poured in as fans wrote, “She’s looking fantastic,” and “She looks GREAT!”

Others applauded her dedication, saying, “I’m really impressed by Melissa’s weight loss progress,” and “Melissa looks great. Good for her.” One longtime admirer added, “Melissa McCarthy! Oh my! I’ve had a crush on her forever. I had no idea she had lost this much weight. Still crushing!”

As McCarthy has debuted a noticeably slimmer silhouette in recent months, online speculation about whether her transformation involved medications like Ozempic has only intensified. The actress, however, has neither confirmed nor denied using any form of weight-loss medication. Instead, she reflected on how her relationship with body image has evolved over the years.

In a past interview with Rolling Stone, McCarthy said, “I thought I battled weight throughout high school, but I look back at pictures of me as a cheerleader, doing sprints, lifting weights, doing gymnastics, playing tennis… and while I wasn’t reed-thin like some girls. We’re so f-cked up in this country that somehow equates that with better. I was a size six the entire time. So what on Earth was I freaking out about?”

Years ago, the actress revealed to PEOPLE that she had experimented with an all-liquid diet, a method she now looks back on with regret. “I’d never do that again. I felt starved and crazy half the time,” she shared, acknowledging how tough the extreme regimen had been on her body and mind.

Over time, McCarthy continued to lose weight, but she also began letting go of the rigid mindset she once felt pressured to maintain. In an interview with CBS, she explained that her breakthrough came when she finally stopped obsessing over every detail. “I finally said [to myself], ‘Oh, for God sake, stop worrying about it,’ and it may be the best thing I’ve ever done,” she said.

That mental shift, she noted, made all the difference. “I stopped overanalyzing, overthinking, overdoing anything,” McCarthy added. “I just stopped constantly being worried about it, and I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked.”

McCarthy Says She’s Been ‘Every Size On The Planet’

Melissa McCarthy has long spoken openly about her shifting weight over the years, making it clear that her confidence and identity have never hinged on a number on a scale. In fact, the actress once told Women’s Wear Daily that she has lived in nearly every size category imaginable. “[I’ve been] every size on the planet. I have experience dressing me as a 6, a 12 and more,” she shared. “And when you go above a size 12, you don’t lose your love of fashion.”

Her frustration came not from her body, but from the lack of stylish options available to women who didn’t fall into standard sizing. “I always said, ‘Why can’t I find great stuff?’” the “Mike & Molly” star recalled.

Instead of waiting for the industry to change, McCarthy stepped in herself. In 2015, she launched her own clothing line designed to offer fashion-forward pieces she felt were missing from the market, items she described as “more modern” than what full-figured shoppers were typically offered.

Importantly, McCarthy never wanted her label to exist solely within the plus-size world. Her mission was inclusivity at every level. “I’m doing all sizes,” she said at the time. “It’s a strange thing to stop at a certain size. Women don’t, so why should clothes?”

As she continues stepping into new roles with renewed confidence, Melissa McCarthy is proving she is in her boldest, brightest era yet.
