Which NSYNC Songs Are Criminally Underrated? Lance Bass Says…

NSYNC was undoubtedly one of the most popular music groups of the ’90s and early 2000s, dominating the charts with hit singles like “Bye Bye Bye” and “It’s Gonna Be Me.” Despite their success, though, there are a few songs that band member Lance Bass believes deserve more love from the fans. During a new interview about the boy band’s career and extensive catalog, Bass also opened up about which song of the group’s was his favorite to record.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Bass, 46, said that one NSYNC song that typically gets “overlooked” is the 2000 hit “It Makes Me Ill.” The track appears on the group’s “No Strings Attached” album, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and has since sold over 12 million copies.

According to Bass, his love for “It Makes Me Ill” was so strong that he advocated for it to be one of the group’s singles; however, it was ultimately eclipsed by “I’ll Never Stop” and “This I Promise You.”

“‘It Makes Me Ill’ just, to this day, is my favorite non-Christmas song that we’ve done,” he told the publication, calling the single “great” and “fun.”

Bass also pointed out how the song is one of the group’s most popular among men. “Well, it’s funny because it’s like every guy that likes *NSYNC, I can pretty much tell you 80% of the time they’re like, ‘It Makes Me Ill.’ It’s like the dudes’ favorite song of ours,” he said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Bass highlighted another underappreciated gem in the group’s discography: the acapella track “O Holy Night.”

He added, “It was my favorite recording that we’ve ever done — I’ve done. I love it because it just brings us back to how we started in 1995. Just no music, just our voices, and that’s how we started. That one, I just love.”

The holiday-themed track hails from the band’s only Christmas album, “Home for Christmas.” It was released in November 1998 and also featured classics, such as “The First Noel” and “The Christmas Song.”

Bass also took a moment to reflect on his time with the popular boy band, including some of their most memorable looks. And while there are some the singer looks back on fondly, there are several he could have done without.

“It’s so funny, because living in the ’90s, I always thought the fashion was horrible. I just remember [thinking], ‘Really? This is what we’re doing?’ Even then, I was like, ‘This does not feel good,'” he said.

However, even Bass has noticed certain trends from the ’90s making a comeback.

“Everything was so oversized and all that, but now it’s so funny that that style is back, and I actually appreciate it more now,” he said. “I’m like, ‘Okay, maybe that was kinda cool.’ Yeah, I’ve learned to appreciate the ’90s fashion, especially now, so I’m glad that’s back.”

This ’90s Icon Is Also Looking Back At Trends From The ’90s

Bass isn’t the only ’90s icon feeling nostalgic. In another interview, according to The Blast, Tyra Banks shared which ’90s trends she’s hoping make a comeback in 2026.

“If I could bring back a ’90s trend … [I’d] love those tight necklaces, and they had … a little handle on them, and we made them with black string. Like a black ribbon,” she said, calling the look minimalistic and affordable. “Please come back,” she continued. “Make it happen.”

While manifesting throwback looks, Banks is also promoting her new dessert venture, “Smize & Dream,” located in Sydney, Australia. According to the company’s website, the product is described as a warm, sippable treat, similar to a creamy drink and an ice cream sundae. “I never in a million years thought it would be viral. I never in a million years thought I would be in … Mexico and at a Cirque Du Soleil opening of a new show and being asked about it. So it’s beyond my expectations, and now I have to live up to it,” she said.
