Re: “Congress told two federal officers fired shots when Pretti was killed” (Jan. 28, A1):
President Donald Trump and top officials in his administration who promote hatred and bigotry have hijacked what it means to be a patriot.
What makes a patriot? Someone who devoted their life’s work to care for the health of our veterans who served our country. Someone who risked their life to observe and record rogue federal agents intimidating and harassing their fellow citizens in their neighborhood. Someone who tried to intervene and protect an innocent person who was being brutally assaulted by federal agents. Someone who made the ultimate sacrifice standing up for democracy and the core values of our country.
Alex Pretti was a patriot.
