For the first time in either the 2025-26 regular or postseason, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was held below 20 points in a game. The Oklahoma City Thunder still beat the Los Angeles Lakers 108-90 in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals.
Chet Holmgren led the way with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Jared McCain went 4-of-5 from three-point range. SGA did score 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting with six assists, but he also turned the ball over seven times and notably only attempted three free throws.
After the win, Gilgeous-Alexander talked about his teammates stepping up when they needed to.
“We were a little rusty tonight. Offensively, we just stuck with it and made plays” he said.
“The Lakers were throwing a lot of bodies at me, and those guys stepped into the plays confidently. That’s all you can ask for.”
Which brings us to today’s quiz. The 2024-25 regular season MVP and scoring champion averaged 33.8 points-per-game in OKC’s sweep of the Phoenix Suns in the first round, with 42 and 31-point performances to close out the series on the road. With that being said, can you name the NBA scoring champions since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976-77?
Good luck!
