A Florida airport and a Tennessee bridge are renamed after Trump on the same day

The next time President Donald Trump flies to Mar-a-Lago, he’ll be landing at an airport named after himself. And if his motorcade ever passes along I-40 in East Tennessee, he’ll see a bridge bearing his name.

That’s because officials in Palm Beach, Florida, and Dandridge, Tennessee, debuted signage Thursday to honor a president who has shown an affinity for attaching his name to everything from federal buildings to discount drug programs.

Airport officials announced that Palm Beach International Airport has officially been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law in March to change the airport’s name.

“A very big day in Palm Beach, Florida, where it was my Great Honor to have the Palm Beach International Airport be renamed, by a spectacular vote, The President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” Trump wrote Thursday evening on Truth Social. “This will soon be one of the Greatest and Most Spectacular Airports anywhere in the World!”

Earlier in the day, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent spoke at an unveiling ceremony in Tennessee, where the Legislature passed a law last year renaming multiple bridges and roads, including designating a bridge in Jefferson County as the President Donald J. Trump Bridge.

It was previously known as the Francis Burnett Swann Memorial Bridge.

“From this day forward, every driver that encounters this bridge will see that it bears his name, because he has never stopped fighting for the people who travel on it because he has made their cause his own,” Bessent said.

Renaming the airport will cost at least $5.5 million, according to its website, and it will include updates to signage, branding and other materials in the coming weeks.

“We are officially in transition mode! We’re working behind the scenes to update our physical signage, terminal spaces, and digital channels to our new name: President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” the airport said on Facebook.

“Because an entire airport transformation doesn’t happen overnight, you’ll notice a combination of both our classic look and our new brand elements coexisting while traveling through the terminal over the next several weeks,” the post added.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office approved the Trump family’s request in February to trademark the new name on June 18, according to the office. The airport’s website says it entered an agreement with the Trump family on the trademark.

Trump Force One, the private jet Trump used in his campaign, was the first plane to land at the airport at 5:01 a.m. ET after its official name change, Eric Trump, one of the president’s sons, wrote on X.

“There is no person who has done more for Florida and our country, and no one more deserving of this incredible honor,” he wrote. “As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials ‘DJT’ on my boarding pass.”

While the airport has officially changed its name, the three-letter airport code will remain “PBI” until it makes the transition to “DJT” on Aug. 18, airport officials said Thursday.

The new signage went up in Florida and Tennessee weeks after Trump’s name was removed from the Kennedy Center in Washington. His name was added to the center in December, leading to a monthslong court battle that ended with a federal judge’s ordering that all references to Trump be removed from the center and on its website.
