Elon Musk’s five-month tenure as DOGE czar turned out to be a disaster for both the country and for Musk himself. The country might eventually recover from the serious harm he did to essential federal government programs with his drastic, random cuts to personnel and financial grants, but Musk may never recover from the damage done to his reputation.
Having already cratered his popularity with the climate-conscious liberals who were the prime customers for his Tesla EVs, Musk’s current childish feud with President Donald Trump is likely to wipe out his newly found popularity among MAGA partisans.
Musk has spoken often about his ambition to someday live on Mars. Maybe it is time for him to take that trip.
