Fishy injury update on J.J. McCarthy hints at potential move

The Minnesota Vikings seem ready to move on from J.J. McCarthy.

They chose Kyler Murray as their starter, and it might not be the last time the Michigan product is demoted.

He alternated second-team reps with Carson Wentz after an erratic preseason performance, and the veteran might hold an edge to be the primary backup.

He’s also reportedly dealing with an ankle injury, but with roster-cut days, the timing of this report is somewhat fishy.

That’s why Vikings insider Darren Wolfson believes his time might be running out with Kevin O’Connell’s team.

Will the Vikings move J.J. McCarthy?

“So J.J. McCarthy practices on Monday; he practices on Tuesday. He practices on Tuesday. Then all of a sudden can’t go yesterday. I’m not buying it. I’m sorry. That was goofy watching him walk. He was walking normally. It just didn’t add up to me,” Wolfson said.

The Vikings wrap up their preseason on Friday against the Denver Broncos.

With McCarthy not slated to start and looking to beat Wentz for the QB2 spot, those reps could’ve been crucial.

So, the fact that they gave him a rest day after two consecutive practices should raise some eyebrows.

The Vikings could be getting calls for their former first-round pick, and given the way they’ve handled this situation, they might also be eager to let him go.

Even if he’s not traded, demoting him to QB3 should raise questions about his future with the organization, and multiple teams would probably roll the dice on him if he fails to make the 53-man roster.

Whether they’ll move him remains to be seen, but the timing of this undisclosed injury is, at the very least, suspicious.
