Happy 36th birthday to six-time MLB All-Star, two-time ERA champion and 2023 American League Cy Young winner, Gerrit Cole!
After being selected in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft, Cole decided to play college ball at UCLA, where he developed into the first-overall pick in the 2011 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cole pitched the first five years of his Big League career for the Pirates before getting traded to Houston ahead of the 2018 campaign.
He struck out a staggering 602 batters in his two seasons as an Astro before signing a massive contract with the New York Yankees in December 2019. For the most part, Cole has been brilliant in pinstripes despite missing all of last season and a chunk of the season before with arm injuries. So far in 2026, Cole has thrown 111 innings in 19 starts to the tune of a 3.41 ERA with 113 strikeouts following his Tommy John surgery last year.
