Jay-Z is not feeling the pressure of headlining the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show. The rapper said that he sees the opportunity as another gig.
A photographer approached the music mogul in New York City on Tuesday, October 27. The photographer asked whether he felt pressure to perform at the highest level. The rapper’s response revealed he has been at ease ahead of his performance.
Jay-Z has helped with the NFL’s halftime show selections since Roc Nation partnered with the league in 2019. He previously called selecting himself a “selfish” decision. The rapper is set to take the stage at Super Bowl LXI, 2027, after his comment, scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Jay-Z Laughs Off Super Bowl Performance Pressure
Jay-Z appeared relaxed when a photographer approached him in New York City on Tuesday. The photographer asked whether he felt any pressure to deliver a top-notch performance at Super Bowl LXI in February.
The rapper smiled and laughed, making it clear he wasn’t feeling any pressure. “I don’t have pressure,” he said. Jay-Z’s response shows he sees the event the same way he does his regular performances.
The photographer also asked how Jay-Z planned to prepare for the halftime show at SoFi Stadium. He responded, saying, “Same as always.” TMZ described the rapper as completely at ease performing before a global audience, just like any other show.
The Rapper Is NFL’s ‘Live Music Entertainment Strategist’

Roc Nation and Apple Music announced Jay-Z as the 2027 halftime performer on Monday, October 26. ESPN made the announcement during its “Monday Night Football” broadcast. It also featured the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. Roc Nation also shared a video on Instagram, showing the rapper sitting in a football stadium, captioned, “GOAT’s out of the bag.”
“From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey,” he said in a statement. He said that being on the “world’s biggest stage” with 30 years of music, work, and culture is a dream come true.
The rapper with Ric Nation started a partnership with the NFL, giving him the “live music entertainment strategist” role. He oversees halftime performer selection and helps advance social-justice reform.
The halftime producer, Jesse Collins, said that, “Since we’ve been on board with that show, he’s made it every year, and it’s been amazing. He’s always picked right.” Collins described the rapper’s role in an interview with Variety in 2025.
PEOPLE reported that weeks before the Super Bowl announcement, Jay-Z released his eight-part HBO docuseries, “JAŸ-Z in 8.” He also held anniversary concerts celebrating 30 years of “Reasonable Doubt” and 25 years of “The Blueprint.” He said that “The Blueprint” made him feel, “I’ve arrived, and I’m here to stay.”
Jay-Z Previously Said That Choosing Himself Would Look ‘Selfish’

Two years ago, Jay-Z had an interview with Entertainment Tonight, where interviewer Nischelle Turner asked if he would ever return to the halftime stage. The rapper admitted that he had previously hesitated because he worried about how the decision might look.
“I thought it would be selfish to pick myself like too early, so maybe one year, maybe,” Jay-Z said. The rapper’s response suggested he might eventually consider himself for the performance, which is why his Super Bowl announcement did not come as a surprise.
The Blast shared that Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber had been considered for the performance. The 56-year-old rapper also said that the NFL has been a great platform and “it has to be all-inclusive.” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the partnership meant the league was willing to welcome feedback.
Previous Super Bowl Halftime Show Selection Needed Defending

Bad Bunny was announced as the headliner for the 2026 Super Bowl, and it drew a lot of criticism. The Puerto Rican artist’s selection drew criticism from some people, and some argued that country singer George Strait should replace him. Jay-Z stood by his choice and publicly supported the performer despite the backlash.
Last year, the rapper pushed back against claims that Bad Bunny lacked public support. “They love him. Don’t let them fool you,” he replied. Jay-Z had already defended the selection when the NFL announced the booking in September 2025, before the comment.
“What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring,” the rapper said. He also said that Roc Nation was honored to have Bad Bunny perform on the world’s biggest stage. A Change.org petition was reportedly made, calling for Bad Bunny’s replacement. According to reports, the petition gathered more than 50,000 signatures.
Jay-Z Could Bring Beyoncé And Seven Others To The Super Bowl Stage

Jay-Z’s upcoming performance could include guest appearances. The Blast highlighted eight artists whose history with the rapper could make them candidates, although no special guests are confirmed.
Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Alicia Keys are also among the stars who could appear with Jay-Z at the Super Bowl. This is due to their collaborations with Jay-Z on songs like “Crazy in Love,” “Umbrella,” and “Empire State of Mind.” Beyoncé also performed with him during his July 2026 Yankee Stadium anniversary concerts. Rihanna reportedly joined him for “Run This Town,” and Alicia Keys returned to perform their New York anthem.
The rapper’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, could be another possible guest after playing piano during his October 23 concert at SoFi Stadium. Other names mentioned include Eminem, Nas, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg.
Eminem reportedly reunited with Jay-Z for “Renegade,” while Nas joined him for performances featuring “Dead Presidents” and “The World Is Yours.” Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg also performed with Jay-Z during his October 24 concert finale.
Jay-Z remains the only officially announced performer for Super Bowl LXI, scheduled for February 14, 2027.
