Formula 1 agrees to new contract for most famous race

Formula 1 has agreed on a new deal and a new date for one of the most famous races not only in F1 but one in all of motorsport.

Formula1.com has announced that F1 will continue to race around the famous streets of Monaco until 2031, with the race taking place during the first full weekend in June beginning in 2026.

This date change is nice for racing fans as it helps to avoid any conflicts with the Indy 500, as both races typically take place on the last Sunday in May.

Monaco has been a staple of the Formula 1 calendar since 1955 and is one of the weekends all F1 fans look forward to.

The Monaco Grand Prix is home to many legendary moments, such as Ayrton Senna’s record six wins, Max Verstappen’s perfect qualifying lap in 2023 and most recently Charles Leclerc’s emotional 2024 victory, becoming the first Monaco-born driver in 93 years to win the famous race.

As Formula 1 continues to experience an interest boom around the world, the appeal of the Monaco Grand Prix continues to grow. The 2024 edition was the most-watched edition of the race in U.S. history, and the third most-viewed F1 race of all time in the U.S.

It wouldn’t be a normal Formula 1 season without the Monaco Grand Prix. This extension shows that while in recent years the race quality hasn’t necessarily been the best, the rich history and aura the streets of Monte Carlo brings is enough to keep fans tuning in year after year.
