President Trump’s return: One way to support immigrants

Re: “Immigration officers are operating with a new sense of mission. Now, ‘nobody gets a free pass’” (Jan. 27, Nation):

As I struggle with shock and disgust with the new administration’s deplorable actions against immigrants, I am investigating ways to be of help locally. These inhumane actions against people who do the jobs others feel are beneath them — and do them well, for far less pay — are unfathomable to me.

I could fill this page with the injustices suffered by immigrants who, by the way, pay taxes without collecting Social Security and are far less likely to commit crimes than the group so anxious to expel them.

So, while I look for ways to help locally, I do plan to start by taking my business to the immigrant-operated grocery stores, restaurants and other small business that will suffer now that the majority of their customers are reluctant to enter for fear of arrest. I urge you to join me in supporting these hardworking establishments. And please investigate other ways to help those bravely fighting for these families.

    Chris Salditt, Mukilteo
