President Trump’s return: Stay informed, reach across the aisle

Re: “Trump power grab ought to inspire local politicians to do better” (Feb. 2, Opinion):

I agree with The Seattle Times editorial: “Make no mistake, Trump’s attempts to assert total control over governmental operations is a naked and ham-handed power grab.” To claim politicians must align their thinking with that of the president is to ignore that other, rational policies exist that are worthy of consideration.

I believe that now, more than ever, liberals and conservatives need to engage in genuine and civil discussion about what should be done. The bulk of that burden falls upon conservative Democrats and moderate Republicans, as they are most likely to be able to find common ground upon which to move forward.

As for we citizens, as the editorial states, “ … it’s more important than ever to follow what’s happening in the courts, Congress and unfolding campaigns across the country.”

As a German monk once said: “You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say.” (Martin Luther)
