‘Floribama Shore’ Star Dies At 33 After Being Hospitalized For Necrotizing Pancreatitis

On May 1, Medas’ “Floribama Shore” co-star, Nilsa Prowant, shared a post online revealing that her friend had been in the ICU fighting necrotizing pancreatitis for almost two weeks and that he needed a machine to help him breathe.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, necrotizing pancreatitis occurs when pancreatitis inflammation becomes so severe that it causes tissue death. The complications can lead to both short-term and long-term complications.

In the caption, Prowant, who joined the original cast in 2017, explained that Medas’ family was crowdsourcing to raise money for his expenses since he didn’t have medical insurance.

A day later, on May 2, Medas’ family confirmed to TMZ that the 33-year-old had died from liver failure.

Medas’ ‘Floribama Shore’ Castmates Speak Out About His Passing

On Facebook, another one of the show’s original cast members, Aimee Hall, opened up about the heartbreaking news.

“We lost our brother, our best friend, our heart-Kirk,” she wrote. “I was at the beach when I felt it. Before the call even came, a dolphin kept coming up to me, as if to say goodbye. Kirk and I shared a love for dolphins and the ocean, and in that moment, I just knew.”

Hall went on to say that although she was “shattered” by the news, she found solace in the fact that the reality star would finally be at peace.

“Though my heart is shattered, I find peace in knowing he’s no longer in pain,” she continued.

“He’s in heaven now free, whole, and making everyone laugh the way only he could. Kirk had the kindest soul, a heart full of love for everyone he met, and a spirit that brought people together. He truly was the glue that held us all close,” Hall added.

Prowant also reflected on Medas’ life with a carousel of images on Instagram and a lengthy caption.

“Kirk was one of my favorite people in the whole world,” she wrote. “Anytime you needed a friend, Kirk was always there.”

Prowant touched on their “unique” friendship, too, adding that they shared a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to make entertaining television for audiences worldwide.

She continued, “You were more than a roommate to me (and all of us), you were our brother. You saw the good in every person you met. Made light in dark times. Showed up every single time. My heart is broken…things will never be the same. The world lost the most beautiful, kind, and genuine person.”

MTV Is ‘Deeply Saddened’ By The ‘Tragic Passing’ Of One Of Their Stars

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV said they were “deeply saddened” to learn of Medas’ “tragic passing.”

They finished, “Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.”

SallyAnn Salsano, executive producer of “Floribama Shore,” shared a similar statement with TMZ. She said she and the production company were “heartbroken” over the news and called Medas a “beloved member of our ‘Floribama Shore‘ family.”

“Kirk brought light, laughter, and loyalty to every moment—both on screen and off. He was more than a cast member; he was family,” she continued, adding, “Our hearts are with his loved ones, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. We will forever cherish the joy and memories he gave us.”

‘Floribama Shore’ Canceled After Four Seasons In 2022

In 2022, news broke that MTV was ending “Floribama Shore,” a “Jersey Shore” spin-off, after four seasons.

In addition to Medas, Hall, and Prowant, the show featured Jeremiah Buoni, Codi Butts, Kortni Gilson (seasons 1-3), Candace Rice, and Gus Smyrnios.

Originally released on November 27, 2017, the show ran for 75 episodes across five years and featured many outrageous moments, including messy hookups, drunken arrests, and shocking physical fights.
