Striking workers: Benefits are a bad idea

Re: “WA joins two other states in providing benefits for striking workers” (May 19, Business):

I guess I had better start saving more money now that the governor has decided to pay union workers to go on strike.

Obviously, we will be seeing many more strikes demanding much more money, leading to less work being done, prices soaring and more people on welfare. Even the strikers will not really benefit to any degree, as their higher wages won’t likely buy them any more food, clothes or services than their previous wages.

It won’t be long before they realize the most significant impact of all of this is the diminished value of any money they have saved and pensions they will perhaps receive some day, just like the diminished value of my savings and pension.

    Gary T. McGavran, Bellevue
