Angelina Jolie Seemingly Called Out Her Brother Over Financial Support

Angelina Jolie seemingly called out her brother, James Haven Voight, in an email, claiming that he was not being appreciative enough of her financial assistance.

The older sibling broke his silence on their relationship last year, explaining at the time that he naturally “wants to be there” for the actress and her kids, after the breakdown of her marriage to Brad Pitt.

However, it remains unclear how close the siblings still are after Angelina Jolie skipped her brother’s wedding.

Jolie is frustrated with her older brother James Haven Voight, whom she seemingly helps out with money regularly.

The “Maleficent” star is currently locked in a bitter legal fight with her ex-husband Brad Pitt, who sued for her private communications in the sale of her stake in their jointly owned French vineyard to be released.

She earlier challenged the filing, noting that the communication with her business manager and “close advisors” was “intended to be confidential.” However, a partially redacted portion of an email she sent to her business manager made its way to court, revealing remarks that she made about her brother, James, while expressing frustration about her financial struggles.

“Financial situations like Jamie where I just give and give and don’t even get a thank you … is just wrong,” Jolie said in the email, according to USA Today.

She added, “It’s not for me to have to worry that I am always responsible every year, no matter what. And he doesn’t need to save because he isn’t advised and always gets funds.”

Voight is two years older than the Oscar-winning actress and has managed to maintain close ties with her over the years.

During a chat on the “90Who10” podcast, the older sibling opened up about their relationship dynamics and how he was able to come through for her and her kids while her family seemingly struggled due to her divorce.

Voight was asked if he became the “protective big brother” while the whole world watched his sister going through a hard time in her marriage to Pitt.

“That’s where it all started, it started with the protection of her and then of her children, my nieces and nephews,” Voight explained, per Toofab. “There are those who are massively formative years, they’re becoming young adults in their early 20s.”

During his podcast appearance, Voight noted that he felt “blessed” to be with his nephews and nieces, emphasizing how protective he is of his sister’s kids.

He noted, “That’s so crazy thinking that, but yeah, I think it’s just very natural [to feel protective] and I just want to be there. Very much like my mom. Anytime I’m blessed to be in their presence, I want to be in their presence.”

The ceremony, which took place in Laguna Beach, California, was attended by “close family,” including Voight’s father, Jon, but Jolie was nowhere in sight.

Jolie and her ex-husband, Pitt, have been at loggerheads following her decision to sell her share of their famous Château Miraval winery.

The pair got married in 2014 but separated in 2016 when Jolie filed for divorce following an infamous airplane incident that allegedly saw the “Fight Club” actor assault her and their children. It led to an eight-year contentious divorce and custody battle that was settled in December 2024.

However, the actor doesn’t seem to be giving up his fight in their winery case, as a court filing revealed he has sued her for $35 million in damages.

“The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation – he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages,” an extract from the exchange read. “As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”
