Dexter Lawrence II addresses Brian Daboll job-security chatter

The New York Giants fell to 2-8 on the season when they squandered a 10-point fourth-quarter lead en route to suffering a 24-20 loss at the Chicago Bears (6-3) on Sunday afternoon.

Following the defeat, Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II was directly asked if he still feels Brian Daboll is the right head coach to help the club turn things around.

“I do,” Lawrence responded, per Michael Dixon of The Sporting News. “I mean, it don’t matter what anyone else’s opinion, outside of this facility, whatever they say don’t really matter. We just gotta come back Wednesday ready to practice.”

This past Thursday, a report emerged claiming that “Daboll is as good as gone” and will be shown the door either during or after the season. Since the start of the 2023 campaign, the Giants have gone 11-33 under Daboll’s watch.

On Sunday, Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka received criticism regarding the team’s play-calling after rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart went down with a concussion. It’s unclear if Dart will be able to play when the Giants host the Green Bay Packers (5-2-1) on Nov. 16.

“I don’t care,” Lawrence added about outsiders calling for Daboll to be fired. “I don’t care, man. It don’t matter. It never has, it never will matter what anybody outside of the facility has to say. We just gotta keep coming back every week. Reloading and keep going.”

Brian Daboll sends message to Giants players after fourth straight loss

Shortly after the Giants’ fourth consecutive loss, Daboll was asked about his message to those inside the team’s locker room.

“Stick together,” Daboll responded, per the Giants’ website. “That’s what you have to do. But, again, there’s a number of plays, a number of things that could have happened that usually don’t happen when you lose the game or happen when you win the game. And the guys battled but just didn’t get the job done.”

According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, there was no indication as of Monday morning that Daboll would be fired later in the day. Big Blue doesn’t enter its bye until Week 14, but it’s now fair to wonder if Daboll will still be employed when the team comes off that break.
