Brandon Marsh continues to show why he’s an All-Star

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh is on a quest to be named to his first All-Star team and is likely to be named a starter for this season’s Midsummer Classic.

As of the end of Phase 1 of the All-Star voting, Marsh finished second (1,256,874 votes) behind Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages (1,518,451) and ahead of Atlanta Braves right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr. (1,216,288). With two weeks until the All-Star Game (July 14), Marsh has let his bat do all the talking for him instead of fixating on whether he’ll make the team.

Brandon Marsh isn’t trying to focus on being an All-Star, but rather on being the best teammate

“It would be really, really cool to be a part of that group this year, especially here in Philly,” Marsh said recently to MLB.com’s Paul Casella. “You know, I’d be lying to you if I said it wasn’t on my mind, but I’m really not focused on that.”

Marsh continued: “I’m really focused on just trying to be present here with these guys, and still just be a sponge to my teammates,” Marsh said. “Just keep learning from them, and just trying to the best I can be.”

Marsh’s (interim) manager, Don Mattingly, emphasized his patience at the plate and the drive to get better as to why he has had a breakout campaign.

“I think Brandon’s a great example of patience, and a guy getting better,” manager Don Mattingly said. “Obviously, you have to have some level of success to stay here, right? So if he was just doing nothing, then you’re not going to have patience like that, you’re going to make him keep working his way through the Minors. But I think when he was having some sort of success and you’re seeing that, then it allows you to have more patience and keep building on that.”

Brandon Marsh has proven he is a top outfielder in the National League

Marsh’s rise to becoming one of the Phillies’ best hitters has been a year in the making. Since his activation from the injured list on May 3, 2025, Marsh has batted .311 with 195 hits, 22 home runs, 80 RBI and scored 102 runs, per StatMuse.

Among qualified left fielders this season, Marsh is the leader in batting average (.321, fourth in Major League Baseball), hits (93) and stolen bases (eight, caught three times). June has proven to be Marsh’s best month from a power perspective, mashing seven long balls in 101 at-bats, more than he hit in April and May combined (five). Marsh is four home runs away from tying and surpassing his career high in home runs (16).

The 28-year-old has also shown that he doesn’t care where he bats in the lineup, with Mattingly entrusting him to bat in the cleanup spot most games. In 87 at-bats as the four-hole hitter, Marsh has batted .284 with a .753 OPS.

Batting fifth has been the sweet spot for the Georgia native, batting .336 with an .871 OPS. Starting against left-handed pitching has also been a strength of Marsh’s, with a .327 batting average, two triples and five home runs.
