A$AP Rocky has no problem admitting he likes what he likes, even if it’s not traditionally masculine.

In a new interview, A$AP Rocky opened up about his unique sense of style and revealed he’s drawn inspiration from his partner and the mother of his children, Rihanna.

Days before A$AP Rocky, one of the co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala, surprises the world with whatever bold look he’ll step out in, he spent some time chatting with Vogue about fashion, specifically what’s considered masculine versus feminine.

“Man, pardon my language, I do what the f-ck I want,” A$AP, who’s no stranger to causing headlines over some of his most daring looks, said.

“But in all fairness, I want to represent [and] be a catalyst for daring men,” he said. “I don’t know who drew the line between femininity or just being feminine and masculinity.”

He continued, “I don’t know who drew that line, but I don’t see any barriers for me.”

As he continued, A$AP Rocky called out the double standards surrounding men and women in fashion.

“It’s not fair that, like, my girl can just go in my closet and can just take anything from it and wear it,” he added. “That goes both ways. She has pieces she don’t know that I actually stole, you get what I’m saying?”

But it’s not just the father of two who is stealing. A$AP, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, revealed that the “Umbrella” singer has done the same to him, and he’s learned of it during some of the performer’s biggest moments.

“Sometimes you can see her on an interview or see a paparazzi photo, like, ‘Wait. There goes my Miu Miu f-cking jacket! Like, what the f-ck? I was looking for that since 2021.’ You get what I’m saying? And it’s just like, ‘Okay.’ I gotchu, bet.”

The “Good For You” rapper went on to say there are “no barriers” for him when it comes to fashion. He explained that pieces like “kilts” and “babushkas” have been redesigned to emasculate men; however, according to him, it shouldn’t be that way.

“For me, kilts, pearls, shirts on the head, these are all things that were meant to be like, emasculated and meant to look feminine. And they all started out with African men wearing them. Another fact,” he stated.

A$AP Rocky isn’t the only male entertainer unafraid to push the boundaries regarding his fashion choices.

Popular singer and Grammy award-winning artist Harry Styles has also received praise for wearing pieces others would define as feminine, including blouses, flowy pants, dresses, and a ballerina tutu. The former “One Direction” member’s unique sense of self-expression also landed him a Vogue cover shoot.

The commentary surrounding the “Harry’s House” singer hasn’t always been positive, though.

“I changed the whole game… And that is not ego, that is just fact. I was the first one doing it, and now everybody is doing it,” Porter said.

“I feel like the fashion industry has accepted me because they have to. I’m not necessarily convinced and here is why. I created the conversation [about non-binary fashion] and yet Vogue still put Harry Styles, a straight white man, in a dress on their cover for the first time,” he continued.

Porter went on to say that he wasn’t trying to offend Styles, but he did claim the singer was only using the moment to generate more buzz for himself.

“He doesn’t care, he’s just doing it because it’s the thing to do. This is politics for me. This is my life. I had to fight my entire life to get to the place where I could wear a dress to the Oscars and not be gunned down. All he has to do is be white and straight,” he finished.

However, the hate never really bothered Styles. In fact, in 2019, he addressed some of the criticism from others and said he’d continue wearing what made him feel his best.

“In terms of how I wanna dress, and what the album sleeve’s gonna be, I tend to make decisions in terms of collaborators I want to work with. I want things to look a certain way,” he said.

“Not because it makes me look gay, or it makes me look straight, or it makes me look bisexual, but because I think it looks cool. And more than that, I dunno, I just think sexuality’s something that’s fun.”
