Mike McCarthy told reporters after Sunday’s 20-3 loss to the New England Patriots that he felt the offense was slipping during Wednesday and Thursday practices and that he should have reduced the volume of the game plan then. Aaron Rodgers addressed the same problem when he met reporters.
The Steelers gained 235 yards, converted 2-of-12 third downs and have scored one offensive touchdown in 25 possessions through two weeks. Rodgers lost a fumble that New England returned for a touchdown and finished 23-of-39 with no touchdown passes and an interception.
“Can’t feel sorry for ourselves. Can’t point fingers. We’ve all got to play better,” Rodgers said. “I think we can all give a little more. The best teams are player-led teams. We’ve got to keep taking the ownership. In a game like today where there wasn’t a lot of flow to it, we need to be better, and that starts with me at making sure Mike knows what’s working, what’s not working, our coaches know, so we can call stuff that we feel like has a better chance.”
Andrew Fillipponi, an afternoon host on Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan, called the remark passive-aggressive on X and argued that Rodgers never did this under Mike Tomlin.
