Who will win the presidential race? For our final Times Opinion focus group of the 2024 election, we spoke with late-deciding voters — Americans who were seesawing between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump recently and making up their minds at the last minute. With Harris and Trump supporters so energized and polls showing a very tight race, we wanted to explore the events, issues and vibes that might sway these voters one way or another. All of our 15 late deciders were from swing states like Pennsylvania and Michigan, and many of them voted for Mr. Trump in 2016 and…

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Founder mode is the latest trend making waves in the business world. While some have voiced their agreement, others claim it’s merely a buzzword that justifies toxic leadership behavior. To recap, co-founder of Y Combinator Paul Graham penned an essay advocating for “founder mode,” which entails a founder-CEO being involved in all aspects of the business. The opposite approach, manager mode, emphasizes delegation to an executive team and mid-level managers. While Graham acknowledged that founder mode has no clear definition, he described it in contrast to manager mode, which inevitably leads to disastrous…
A cylinder seal and its design imprinted onto clayFranck Raux © 2001 GrandPalaisRmn (Musée du Louvre) The world’s oldest known writing system may have had its origins in the imagery on decorated cylinders used to denote ownership. Some of the symbols on these cylinder seals correspond to those used in proto-cuneiform, a form of proto-writing used in Mesopotamia. The finding indicates that the invention of writing in Mesopotamia was a decentralised process, in which many people across a wide area contributed to the set of symbols used. “There’s been this longstanding reconstruction of how writing appeared in Mesopotamia, which is…
Boeing machinists approved a new labor deal Monday, ending a more than seven-week strike that halted most of the aircraft production at the company that was already struggling with mounting losses.Machinists voted 59% in favor of the new contract, which includes 38% wage increases over four years and other improvements. The approval is a relief for Boeing’s new CEO Kelly Ortberg, who took the top job in August to steer the company through its safety and manufacturing crises.President Joe Biden congratulated the union and the company — one of the country’s top exporters — on reaching the deal. The job market is cooling across America, slowing to a pace not seen since late 2020 during COVID lockdowns. Now, one must remember that natural disasters decimated numerous states. Yet, I tend to look at two things – public sector growth and manufacturing. Unemployment stands at 4.1%, while the measure of discouraged and underemployed workers held steady at 7.7%. Per usual, the Bureau of Labor and Statistics revised their calculations for previous months. August’s growth whittled down to 78,000 and September’s calculation came in at 223,000, marking a total decline of 112,000 reported jobs in that two-month period. The US…
(Photo by John Moore/AFP via Getty Images) Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are delivering for the American people. Unfortunately, no one wants what they’re delivering. In the month of October, we had a disastrous jobs report with only 12,000 jobs being created. On the flipside, there was no shortage of illegal aliens flowing over the border in October. Biden and Harris really succeeded with that number. These people do not deserve to be in power. Breitbart News reports: Biden/Harris Deliver More Migrants than Jobs in October President Joe Biden’s border deputies invited four times more migrants in October than the…

PHILADELPHIA: A Pennsylvania judge declined on Monday (Nov 4) to halt billionaire Elon Musk’s US$1 million giveaways to registered voters in United States election battleground states. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, a Democrat, sued Musk and his pro-Trump political action committee, America PAC, last week, calling the US$1 million awards “an illegal lottery scheme”. Krasner had asked that the daily giveaways be shut down, but Common Pleas Court Judge Angelo Foglietta declined to do so after a daylong hearing on Monday featuring Musk’s lawyers and prosecutors. Foglietta did not immediately provide a reason for his decision, though no more giveaways were…
The Iranian-made satellites, Kowsar and Hodhod, were successfully placed into orbit by a Russian Soyuz-2.1 spacecraft.A Russian rocket carrying a payload of satellites into orbit – including two from Iran – blasted off successfully, Russia’s Roscosmos space agency said, in a move seen as reflecting the growing cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. The Soyuz-2.1 spacecraft lifted off as scheduled from the Vostochny Cosmodrome launchpad in far eastern Russia and put its payload into a designated orbit nine minutes after the launch on Tuesday. Roscosmos said that two Russian Ionosfera-M satellites – designed to monitor the space weather around Earth –…
