“The Bachelor” season 24 star Madison Prewett has been sharing deeply personal aspects of her life over the last few weeks, from what she describes as her struggle with pornography to becoming a committed wife. Most recently, on her podcast, “Stay True,” Prewett and her husband, Grant Troutt, revealed the controversial way they plan to discipline their daughter, sparking significant online debate.

Former ‘Bachelor’ Star Says She And Husband Plan To ‘Spank’ Daughter As Commanded By The Bible

Prewett and her husband, who is a pastor at a Texas church, have revealed they plan to “spank” their infant daughter, born in January 2025, citing the Bible as their guide for the controversial parenting choice.

“We will [spank her], on the record, because the Bible clearly says, ‘Folly is bound up in a child, but discipline drives it far away,’” Troutt said on the podcast.

Prewett, 29, added, “It also specifically says discipline with a rod. … Well, some people could say, ‘You can discipline them with time-outs.’ Hold on, it says with a rod.”

As the conversation continued, Prewett clarified that all future spankings would be done in “a very loving way.”

“Mommy does not want to discipline you, mommy doesn’t enjoy having to spank you, but there are consequences to disobedience,” Prewett said she’d tell her daughter. “And that’s what you’re saying is, there are consequences to our sin. There are consequences to disobedience.”

To justify her stance, the “Bachelor” alum drew upon her own childhood experience.

“Discipline is not pleasant. … When my dad spanked me when I was young, I didn’t enjoy it,” she said. “But now I look back, and I’m, like, ‘Praise God, my dad loved me enough to discipline me. Praise God that my dad loved me enough to train me into righteousness.’”

Fans React To The ‘Bachelor’ Star’s Comments

The couple’s stance on spanking their daughter quickly sparked backlash online, with many social media users sharing their disagreement.

“What commandment did I miss?” someone asked on Instagram.

“I could never hit my child,” someone else commented. “How is spanking any different than child abuse?”

Another user shared their experience with their sons, who are eight and 11, writing, “We don’t smack or hit them; never have and never will.”

A fourth slammed Prewett and Troutt, posting, “It’s actually proven [that] corporal punishment doesn’t work. There is no ‘think’ about it.”

The user acknowledged Prewett’s belief in God but criticized applying scripture literally to parenting, “But when it comes to a child’s safety being affected because of what the Bible is ‘saying,’ it’s worrisome. The bible was written at a time before childhood psychologists existed, and research was done.”

‘Bachelor’ Star Details Her Struggle With Porn For Years

Recently, Prewett opened up about her years-long struggle with porn and masturb-tion during her “Stay True” podcast, which she described as “sexual sin.”

According to the reality star, her struggle with porn began when she was 13 after seeing something “extremely inappropriate” at her friend’s house.

“I questioned my worth and my identity. Every time I gave into sexual sin, I didn’t know my purpose,” she said before explaining that she couldn’t “break free” from the cycle until she told other people about it.

“Thankfully, by the grace of God and by the power of Godly community and people around me, I have been free from porn and masturb-tion for — I don’t even know — 10 years. But that was something that enslaved me and marked me for so long,” the podcaster revealed.

Prewett’s Husband Also Struggled With Sexual Sin And Drugs

And Prewett wasn’t alone in her struggles. Troutt also revealed his own battle with sin during the podcast, explaining that he was stuck in a “shameful, roller-coaster cycle” with porn and drugs.

According to Troutt, he used to smoke marijuana consistently before a “crazy panic attack” prompted him to quit the drug for good.

After that, he began taking his “sexual sin seriously,” leading him to have an emotional experience with God, which he implied changed him forever.

“It drove me to this place where I have nothing but [God]. … I just remember walking with Jesus, [and] he was healing me. It was like he was stripping everything in my life because it was drawing me right into the person of Jesus Christ,” he said.
