Baker Mayfield was watching a classic Pixar movie while agreeing to extension

One might think Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield said “Ka-ching” after signing a three-year, $165M contract extension on Tuesday, but he may have said “Ka-chow” instead.

Mayfield spoke to the media Wednesday to discuss his new deal and Tampa Bay’s Sunday road game against the Cincinnati Bengals (Fox, 1 p.m. ET). The QB said he was in a movie theater watching the Disney/Pixar film “Cars” before stepping out to take a phone call and agreeing to the contract. The film recently returned to the big screen for its 20th anniversary.

The news of Mayfield’s extension came quickly and unexpectedly, like Lightning McQueen’s rise to stardom in the movie. The QB was initially set to play on the last year of his contract after failing to strike a deal with the team earlier this offseason.

“I told my agent [Thomas Mills], ‘I’m done talking unless something really changes. If you think that I’m really willing to agree to it bring it to my attention,'” Mayfield said. “Apparently they reengaged in talks last week, that I did not hear about until Monday at around 6 p.m.”
