The Toronto Blue Jays have not given up on a late run to the postseason. A possible change of scenery candidate could help that playoff push.
Keegan Matheson from MLB.com reported that the Blue Jays have acquired pitcher Jameson Taillon and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs will either receive a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Taillon had been designated for assignment on Monday following a disappointing and injury plagued 2026 season. He had posted a 5.92 ERA and a 1.355 WHIP over his 76 innings, striking out 68 batters with 27 walks.

The Blue Jays are clearly hoping that a change of scenery can help Taillon return to the form he displayed between 2024 and 2025. He posted a 3.45 ERA and a 1.098 WHIP over his 295 innings, striking out 223 batters with 60 walks.
The Blue Jays would take that production. They have struggled to find answers in the back of their rotation as injuries and ineffectiveness have contributed to their disappointing season. If Taillon can return to form, he would be a solid middle-of-the-rotation option.
Taillon is also a low-risk option at this point. He is slated to reach free agency at the end of this season, allowing the Blue Jays to easily walk away if this move does not pan out. The Cubs will presumably pick up the tab on a portion of his remaining salary to lessen the Blue Jays risk.
