Just two seasons after reaching the NLCS for the first time since 2015, the New York Mets left their fans disappointed with a 74-88 record, good for last place in the National League East.
The disastrous season was a bit concerning, especially considering New York made a major offseason move in inking Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million contract.
A caveat of Bichette’s contract was an opt-out prior to Years 2 and 3 of the deal. Bichette was expected to opt into the second year of his Mets contract, and a report Thursday gave more clarity on the situation.
Bo Bichette will return to the Mets in 2027
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Bichette has opted into the second year of his contract and will return to New York next season. The opt-in guaranteed $42 million for Bichette in 2027, something that would’ve been foolish to pass up.
