Dolly Parton‘s nephew, Bryan Seaver, has found himself at the center of a legal dispute with his late aunt’s estate after being terminated from his position. The estate has also filed a lawsuit against him, alleging extortion, threats, and retaliation. Bryan Seaver is in a legal battle against She’s Alive LLC (SAL), the entity created to protect and manage Dolly Parton’s affairs and legacy, overseen by her longtime manager Danny Nozell.
On September 16, Seaver received a letter terminating him as head of security, a position he took over from his father and held for more than 20 years. In a statement, Seaver said he was “dismayed” by the decision, adding that no explanation was given.
“I was fired. After the estate negotiated with me and my company for services in perpetuity and agreed to that service provision from my company. A week later they fired me for these contrived ‘threats’,” Seaver said.
SAL then filed a lawsuit against him, alleging he made extortion demands, threatened Nozell and estate employees, and vowed to “destroy” Parton’s brand.
In court documents, the entity alleged Seaver sent messages calling himself a “killer” and wrote, “Everyone needs to be worried about what I might do,” as reported by The Blast.
Bryan Seaver Says Dolly Parton Called Him ‘Her Killer’
Seaver denied the accusations and added context to the situation. He told TMZ that the messages between him and Nozell cited in the court documents were private “rage talk” between them that were misconstrued.
As for the “killer” comment, Seaver said Parton referred to him by that nickname, per ABC News.
“Dolly called me her killer. It was a joke we used around her camp. I was her ‘baby boy ninja’ and Danny Nozell took that text out of context to somehow imagine that I was threatening him. He’s always called me The Killer,” Seaver explained.
He also rejected the claim that he threatened Parton estate employees, saying that he considers them his friends and co-workers.
Dolly Parton’s Sister Shuts Down Rumors Amid The Controversy
Amid the controversy between Seaver and Parton’s estate, there have been rumors circulating that a feud erupted among the country icon’s family members after her passing.
Parton’s younger sister, Freida, took to social media and shut down the rumors. “There is no feud within our family. No one among the Parton/Owens family is fighting over Dolly’s estate,” she wrote. In addition, she also addressed Seaver’s ongoing dispute, saying that he is loved by everyone in the family.
The Court Granted A Restraining Order Against Bryan Seaver
Following his firing, Seaver, along with his team from his private security firm Squadrant Augmented Protection Services, was dismissed from Parton’s property. The replacement team immediately assumed their security duties.
In addition to the lawsuit, SAL also filed a temporary restraining order against Seaver, which the court granted.
According to The Tennessean, Seaver was ordered to keep a distance of 1,000 feet from any SAL employee and people who have business with the entity. He is also banned from communicating with them and interfering in business relationships.
A hearing is scheduled on October 7.
