Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers scuffle could result in punishment

It’s not unusual for things to get a little heated on the court, and that’s what happened during the Indiana Fever and Dallas Wings game on Thursday.

During the first half of the matchup, the two got tangled up while fighting for position. Clark was called for a foul, and then Bueckers got slapped with a technical after telling Clark to “calm down.”

Bueckers finished the outing with 13 points, while Clark had 10 points and nine assists. But their numbers weren’t the biggest story of the game. Instead, their heated moment is what drew looks.

Paige Bueckers could face a $500 fine

Because Bueckers got hit with a technical foul, she’ll have to pay a fine unless the WNBA overturns the foul. Bueckers received a technical during a May 22 game against the Atlanta Dream, but the WNBA took that one back, so this would mark her first foul of the season.

According to the WNBA’s official rules, players are fined $500 for each of their first three technical fouls. So, if this foul is upheld, she’ll have to pay $500 for the moment. The punishment for technical fouls goes up after three fouls, and it’s $1,000 for four through seven. At eight fouls, a player gets hit with a $1,500 fine and a one-game suspension.

Since this would be Bueckers’ first technical of the season, she’s doing pretty well when it comes to foul trouble. Dallas’ next game is Sunday against the Seattle Storm.
