During “Hollywood Week: Music City Takeover” on “American Idol,” the country superstar found herself on the receiving end of loud boos from the live audience, and she didn’t flinch. Instead, she leaned in.

The season 4 champ-turned-judge made it clear she is not rattled by the backlash, clapping back online and standing firm at the judges’ table as tension bubbled inside the Nashville-set episodes.

Carrie Underwood Fires Back After Getting Booed On ‘American Idol’

On Tuesday, Carrie Underwood made it known that the jeers weren’t getting under her skin.

After multiple tense moments aired, she responded on X with a cheeky message that read, “Boo me. I don’t care.”

The reaction followed several awkward exchanges during the “Hollywood Week: Music City Takeover” rounds, which were filmed in Nashville for season 24 of “American Idol.”

The singer’s critiques, though constructive, didn’t sit well with sections of the audience, who repeatedly voiced their disapproval.

At one point during the final Hollywood Week episode, Underwood acknowledged the pattern. “They just like to boo me,” she said per Us Weekly.

When the audience grew louder, she reminded them where the real decisions are made.

“You’re not included in the discussions,” she told the audience, making it clear that judging remains firmly at the panel’s discretion.

Netizens Share Mixed Opinions About Underwood’s Post

    MEGA

Hours have passed since Carrie Underwood took to X to share her thoughts, and the tweet has sparked a wave of mixed reactions from fans.

On one hand, many have slammed the songstress, noting that her words contradict her actions.

“Girl. You run to Twitter every time to post about it. You care,” one fan wrote, while another commented, “Oh yes. Classic indifference is when you totally don’t care, so you have to tell everyone how much you don’t care.”

Some fans even turned the situation into a political issue, with one person sharing, “You support a rapist as a president, and you’re a mother. You’re lucky all they do is boo you.”

While some users called for Underwood’s head, others threw their support behind her.

“How can anyone boo Carrie?!! WTF is wrong with people? She is amazing,” one fan commented.

Another shared, “Why are you being boo’d? For what it’s worth, I think you’re about the best role model for young women I can think of!”

Carrie Underwood Clashes With Audience Over Mor’s Performance

The tension peaked after contestant Mor performed an original song during his audition.

Before even delivering her feedback, Underwood sensed what was coming. Turning to fellow judge Luke Bryan, she predicted, “They are going to boo me.”

The 42-year-old then addressed the audience directly, saying, “You guys are gonna boo me. You’re gonna boo me. It’s coming. Bring it on. I love it! Your boos are feeding me.”

Underwood then gave the contestant her feedback. The star’s critique focused on strategy rather than talent.

In her view, performing an original song during that stage of the competition was risky, especially with a full band available.

“In a room like this for you to bring an original song with that incredible band sitting behind you twiddling their thumbs, I feel like it was a missed opportunity,” she explained.

Despite her lukewarm response, Mor still advanced to the next round. Later, Underwood doubled down on social media, writing on X, “Singing original music is SUCH a gamble at this stage in the competition. Don’t. Waste. The. Band.”

She added that Mor’s voice and previous audition kept him in, and noted that she wanted to hear his original music after he had become a big star.

Underwood Gets Support From Luke Bryan

As the boos echoed through the studio, Bryan stepped in to defend his fellow judge.

“She only won this. She knows,” Bryan reminded the audience, referencing Carrie Underwood’s own victory on season 4. The comment, however, did little to quiet the audience.

Underwood had already hinted at the chilly reception before the episodes aired.

“Spoiler alert…I get booed A LOT from our Hollywood Week audience @AmericanIdol,” she tweeted on February 16.

Her presence on the panel marks a new era for the show. Underwood joined Bryan and Lionel Richie for season 23 following Katy Perry’s exit in 2024.

Reflecting on her journey from contestant to judge, she previously shared that she “went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show.”

Underwood revealed she was proud of everything she had accomplished on the show and of all the milestones she had reached post-“American Idol.”

Long before facing down a restless Hollywood Week audience, Underwood built one of the most successful careers to ever come out of “American Idol.”

After winning season 4, she went on to dominate the country music scene. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Underwood has sold more than 22.5 million albums and 72.5 million singles. Those numbers make her the biggest-selling female country music star of all time.

That track record is part of what fuels her confidence at the judges’ table.

Having navigated the pressure of the competition herself and transformed that win into a record-breaking career, Underwood knows exactly what is at stake for contestants.
