Chiefs have surprising stance on Tyreek Hill trade

The Miami Dolphins were humbled during their 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1.

The defeat caused a players-only meeting to happen in Miami this week, and there is speculation wide receiver Tyreek Hill could want out amid quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s struggles. Hill was the Dolphins leading receiver in Week 1, with four catches for 40 yards.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on an update of the situation between Hill and Miami. The two parties had a fractured relationship dating back to January when the star receiver said he was “out” after the season.

Miami Dolphins’ phones could be ringing for Tyreek Hill soon

Per Russini, the Dolphins aren’t planning to trade the eight-time Pro Bowl athlete, but the team is expected to hear bids if they continue to lose before the trade deadline.

“As for what’s next?” Russini wrote. “I was told the Dolphins don’t have any plans right now to trade Hill. This team needs to win, and Tua Tagovailoa needs Hill to make the offense explosive again. The receiver is also currently being investigated by the NFL over allegations of domestic abuse. But if the losses pile up, expect the phones to ring in Miami.”

Do the Kansas City Chiefs want to trade for Hill?

Any speculation of a trade involving Hill will include the Kansas City Chiefs, the organization that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2016 draft. Per Russini, the Chiefs aren’t ready to pull the trigger on a trade for the All-Pro.

“And if you’re wondering whether Brett Veach, the always-savvy GM in Kansas City, might be tempted to pick up the phone and arrange a reunion with his former star receiver, I’m told the focus for now is on getting Xavier Worthy healthy as the Chiefs await the return of Rashee Rice from a six-game suspension,” Russini wrote.

Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots feels like a must-win for the Dolphins, with contests against the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets rounding out the month of September. If Miami drops the game to New England, Hill’s patience with Tagovailoa and the Dolphins will be tested.
