Cole Hauser, best known to millions as Rip Wheeler on the hit Paramount series “Yellowstone,” is making headlines again, this time for something that has nothing to do with his rugged on-screen persona. The 50-year-old actor, who recently launched his own bourbon brand, Lazy K Bar Straight Bourbon Whiskey, is opening up about some unforgettable fan encounters that have left him both amused and a little shocked. As one of the breakout stars of “Yellowstone,” Hauser has developed a massive fan base, and not just among the younger crowd. In fact, according to Cole Hauser, some of his most passionate admirers have been older women.

Cole Hauser is no stranger to passionate fans, but the “Yellowstone” actor admits some encounters have been more than a little hands-on. The 50-year-old star recently shared that older women in particular can get bold when they meet him. “I’ve had some old women grab my a-s,” he told Page Six during a bourbon tasting event for his brand in Arlington, Texas. Hauser laughed about the encounters, adding, “It’s been a little bit… a little bit strange.”

The actor later admitted that most fans are polite and respectful. But he couldn’t help but notice a pattern when it comes to older admirers letting loose. “For the most part of it, everyone’s been very respectful,” he said. “But I think when the older ladies get a few drinks in them, they get a little aggressive.”

From Handsy Fans To Permanent Tattoos

While Hauser may laugh off the bold behavior of older fans grabbing him in inappropriate places, not every fan interaction is as fleeting. The actor shared with The Hollywood Reporter that some admirers have taken their love for Rip Wheeler to permanent extremes.

“I was at South Point, which is a notorious cowboy hotel in Las Vegas. A woman came up to me, and she had a tattoo of my character, and I thought it was fake. She said, ‘No, it’s real. I just got it done.’ That’s crazy,” Hauser recalled with a laugh. “That’s a crazy moment that someone would take the character and put it on her body, or that people would name their children after Rip.”

For Hauser, it’s both surreal and humbling proof of the cultural footprint Rip Wheeler and “Yellowstone” have left behind. “It’s just another acknowledgement of what Taylor started and our collaboration together,” he said.

Inside Cole Hauser’s Bond With Father Wings Hauser

Beyond the fan frenzy, Cole Hauser has also reflected on his personal life, particularly his relationship with his late father, actor Wings Hauser, who passed away in March. Their bond wasn’t always traditional, but it carried deep meaning for the “Yellowstone” star. “I didn’t really grow up with him, but when I moved out to L.A., he let me live with him for a year, and we got to know each other a little then,” Cole shared in a 2021 interview with Cowboys & Indians magazine.

Cole’s parents split when he was young, and he didn’t realize who his father was until an unexpected moment as a child. “At about 9 or 10 years old, I saw my father on TV,” Hauser recalled. After recognizing Wings Hauser’s name in the credits, he went to his mother for answers, where she explained the man he’d just seen on screen was actually his dad.

Hauser On Raising His Daughter Versus His Sons

Back in 2022, Hauser gave fans a glimpse into his life as a dad during an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” The actor, who shares three children with wife Cynthia Daniel, daughter Steely, and sons Ryland and Colt, admitted that parenting looks very different depending on which child he’s talking about.

“I love her ultimately so much that it’s hard for me to say no to anything,” Hauser said of Steely at the time. “But I’m getting better as she’s getting older to be a little bit more cautious with giving her everything she asks for.”

When Drew playfully asked if it had been the same with his boys, Hauser didn’t hesitate, “No. They get nothing. ‘Go to work, do what I tell you to do, go play sports.’ It’s just totally different.” Hauser laughed as he recalled his wife’s take on the dynamic. “My wife says it all the time, she’s like, ‘She’s got you wrapped around your finger.'”

Cole Hauser On Cowboy Camp And Learning The Ropes

When The Hollywood Reporter asked Hauser about the intense cowboy training the “Yellowstone” cast underwent before filming, the actor admitted that while he had some experience, the work demanded much more than casual horseback riding.

“There are levels to riding horses. It’s one thing if you get on a horse and take a walk on the beach,” Hauser joked. “But when you have to start roping and cutting and stuff, that’s called saddle time. You gotta put it in. I don’t care who you are; there’s nobody naturally good at roping. It’s repetition and putting in the work. If you do that, then you’ll be good at it.”

Hauser explained that although he had ridden before, the specialized skills required for the show were a different challenge entirely. “I rode horses, but there are several disciplines that you have to learn to be a great horser,” he said. “So it took a little while, and I’m still working on it! You have to go in every year and put in the work.”
