Deadline looms as Liverpool prepare record-breaking move for Isak

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to test Newcastle United’s resolve with a Premier League-record bid for Alexander Isak as the transfer window edges towards its conclusion.

The Merseyside club are expected to table an offer worth around £130M ($175.5M) for the Swedish striker over the weekend, a figure that would eclipse the current British transfer record if accepted.

Liverpool remain determined to land Isak before Monday’s deadline as they continue their push to reshape their attack.

Newcastle are reluctant to part with their star forward and have long understood to value the 25-year-old closer to £150M ($202.5M).

However, their recent capture of Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, 23, has fueled speculation that they are preparing for a potential exit. The German forward offers Eddie Howe an alternative in attack should the club sanction a blockbuster sale.

Behind the scenes, the situation appears increasingly strained. Isak is believed to be frustrated over what he views as broken promises regarding his future, with reports suggesting he has been unwilling to train fully while his position remains unresolved.

Howe has denied making assurances to the player, insisting his priority is managing a committed squad and reiterating that he only wants players fully invested in the club’s project.

A deal of this magnitude would represent a major statement from Liverpool. Isak, who struck 27 goals in all competitions last season, is regarded among the most clinical finishers in the world and would join fellow big-money arrivals Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz as part of Arne Slot’s long-term rebuild.

Elsewhere, RB Leipzig have reportedly made direct contact with Liverpool over Harvey Elliott as they look for a replacement for new Tottenham signing Xavi Simons.

No formal bid has been made, but the Bundesliga side’s interest highlights the 22-year-old’s rising profile on the continent. Liverpool, however, are under no immediate pressure to sell.

With the window entering its final hours, Liverpool face a decisive moment. Landing Isak could define their season, but Newcastle’s stance means the saga may run to the wire.
