Democratic National Committee: Some suggestions for new chair

Re: “Dems tap Minnesota party chief as new leader” (Feb. 2, Nation & World):

Congratulations to Ken Martin, newly elected Democratic National Committee chairman. We have enormously high expectations for him. It’s critical that he implement a plan quickly for Democrats to win in the 2026 and 2028 elections.

    I offer the following suggestions:

    1) Regain the trust of the people by listening. Don’t assume or lecture. Learn and validate our concerns, needs and dreams.

    2) Engage the nearly 90 million eligible nonvoters. They have the power to change close races to landslide victories.

    3) Seek input directly from the people. Give everyone the opportunity to participate and contribute.

    4) Do not include pop stars, billionaires, celebrities or members of any prior administrations in the plan.

    5) Be open and fully transparent with the American people. Communicate clearly and often.

    6) Be bold, innovative and aggressive. Maximize use of popular social media outlets.

    7) Emphasize the identity of the party to be “We the People” — not the billionaire class. Highlighting differences among the American people only fragments our collective power.

    8) Ensure all candidates coalesce around the plan. Make it the keystone topic in every conversation with the media.

Introduce the plan to the American people broadly, with great fanfare and optimism.

    Donald Neifert, Woodinville
