DOGE Claims First Scalp In Efforts To Cut Government and Bureaucracy

DOGE – President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency – is off to a red-hot start.

The pseudo-department (it’s not a real government agency… yet) led by Elon Musk has several goals in its mission: Cut government spending, reduce red tape and bureaucracy, and abolish unhelpful or even detrimental programs.

Case in point: the Chief Diversity Officers Executive Council in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

First it was there. Now, it’s gone.

Unfortunately the site is still active, but that’s because the feds have 60 days to get Trump’s order done.

The OPM is the agency that handles human resources, payroll, and the like for the over two million federal employees.

What is the Chief Diversity Officers Executive Council at the OPM? I’m glad you asked.

They describe their mission as “the principal interagency forum to implement and sustain a national strategy for DEIA across the Federal government and position the Federal government as a model for the DEIA.”

What does that mean? First, the DEI acronym was expanded to include “accessibility.” As in, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.

As for what they do, here’s the official description: “The Council will advise agencies and their senior leaders on promising practices in DEIA and promote those practices as important to agency strategic plans, missions, and operations; coordinate activities of its member agencies on government-wide policy implementation and partnerships; assist with setting clear strategies, benchmarks, and metrics for DEIA standards of excellence and accountability across the Federal government; and promote an inclusive workplace culture for all Federal employees.”

In short, like most if not all DEI programs, this one was meant to increase the number of “minority” groups in the OPM. In the thinking of the left, increasing the number of minority individuals and decreasing the number of majority – in our case here in America, white – individuals is considered a de facto public good. Why that’s the case is never clearly explained, but one gets the sense that it would be rather impolitic, even by the left’s standards, to clearly explain their reasoning.

Regardless, we won’t have to worry about it for at least four years. Because like all other federal agency DEI programs, it’s gone.

    Trump Cuts DEI

As part of his marathon run at fixing as much of Biden’s mistakes as possible on the first day, President Trump rescinded Executive Order 13985.

President Trump’s order, Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing, ends “illegal and immoral” discrimination programs like DEI. The Budget Director, OPM Director, and Attorney General are ordered to end the programs and all related “activities” in the federal government within 60 days.

As part of this effort, the Budget Director is collecting a record of all such programs that existed under the Biden administration, which should make for very interesting reading.

DOGE chief Musk has long railed against such programs, something President Trump agrees with.

It’s just Day Two folks. We’re off and running.
