Emma Dumont made headlines recently for their courageous decision to come out as a transmasculine non-binary person.

The actor has now broken their silence on coming out, saying it has been “one of the longest challenges” they’ve faced in their lives but has also been “the most rewarding.”

They also disclosed that they’ll now go by the name Nick Dumont in their personal lives, but their birth name, Emma Dumont, remains valid for work purposes.

Dumont has finally spoken out about their new life after coming out as a “transmasculine non-binary” person.

In a statement shared with Out, the “Oppenheimer” actor said that discovering their newfound identity was quite the challenge but clarified that it has also been the “most rewarding” for them.

“Coming out to myself as trans has been one of the longest challenges I’ve faced in life. It has also been the most rewarding by a mile,” they said.

Dumont, who pointed out that they now use they/them pronouns, also described how they gradually understood their gender over the years.

“I lived in an authoritarian household for many decades where it wasn’t safe to be myself at home. I knew at 13/14 I wasn’t ‘like other girls,’ I knew I liked girls, and I knew I didn’t feel right in my body,” they explained.

The 30-year-old actor went on to describe how playing a transgender character about ten years ago helped them feel satisfied as their gender identity aligned with their experience rather than their assigned sex.

“Around 19, I was cast as an [assigned female at birth] trans teenager in a TV pilot,” they explained. “I looked at myself in my trailer in basketball shorts, a bandage wrapped around my chest, and I thought, ‘Damn I look good!'”

“A decade later, I found a safe community, figured out I was non-binary,” they continued. “Now I’m out, have a life I could have only dreamed of as a kid, and I still get to play women at work.”

“I’m trans. I love being trans. We’re here. We’ve always been here,” they proudly declared, adding that they were “grateful” to live in the present and to have access to “safe spaces and support” and to be able to “go to the LA LGBT Center and get medical care without fear.”

Dumont also had kind words for “queer” individuals who fought the good fight to make it possible for her to be able to express her own identity.

“That hasn’t been the experience many have had,” Dumont said before sharing their “gratitude” for the “courageous queer people” who came before them.

The “Wrong Turn” actor ended their statement by noting they had originally planned to take more time before revealing their gender identity to the world.

“I didn’t think I’d be out to everyone so soon, but I made a promise to myself that if someone asked, I would share,” they said. “Someone did ask, and I shared…because I’m proud.”

Dumont’s remarks come a week after they announced they were “transmasculine non-binary” and that family and friends would start calling them Nick.

“They identify as a trans masculine non-binary person. Their work name is still going to be Emma Dumont, but they will go by Nick with friends and family,” a rep for the actor told TMZ at the time.

The news sparked various degrees of reaction from fans, with many congratulating the actor and wishing them well.

Dumont subtly hinted at their new identity in May when they debuted a bold, short, choppy haircut. The new style was a sudden shift from their usual long, straight hair.

They’ve also developed a liking for more casual styles, as seen in their recent post, in which they wore T-shirts and sunglasses.

According to the Daily Mail, Dumont is billed to star in the upcoming horror film “New Me” as Andriana, although there is no release date for the film yet.

The plot sees a young mother trying to connect with her baby and husband emotionally but must pay a hefty price, letting go of the layers of forgotten trauma she’d suffered.

They previously starred in a thriller alongside Rumer Willis for “What Lies Ahead,” where they both shared a steamy flirty scene.
