End of shutdown: ‘The serious harm needed to be stopped’

Re: “Democrats made their point. And the shutdown needed to end” (Nov. 13, Opinion):

I really appreciated having someone say the reality of the shutdown. Too much pain was being inflicted on the American people by the powers that did not care. The point was made, the serious harm needed to be stopped.

I appreciate that someone finally is speaking up for the people who were being harmed. I am sure we will see a repeat at the and of January, but at least people will be able to get food. Cutting off the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in a rich country was cruel and another tarnish on our country.

I thank the Democrats who cared more for their fellow Americans than party politics.

    Terry Gosse, Shoreline
