Ezra Miller just made a very unexpected return to the spotlight.

The embattled “Flash” star made a surprise appearance at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend, hitting the red carpet after years of lying low amid a whirlwind of legal troubles, disturbing allegations, and public controversy.

Clad in a maroon tuxedo and beret, Ezra Miller kept their head down, literally, walking briskly past photographers and refusing to stop for pics, but their presence didn’t go unnoticed.

According to Variety, Miller was there to support director Lynne Ramsay at the premiere of her latest film “Die, My Love,” which stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. Miller previously collaborated with Ramsay on the 2011 psychological thriller “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”

Their return to Cannes marks the actor’s first major public appearance since “The Flash” flopped at the box office in 2023. The failure capped off a brutal stretch of headlines involving arrests, accusations, and alleged erratic behavior.

It all started unraveling in April 2020, when a disturbing video surfaced showing Miller appearing to choke a woman at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland. The “Fantastic Beasts” star was slammed online, but no charges were filed.

In a now-deleted Instagram video posted early that year, they appeared to issue a chilling threat to members of the Ku Klux Klan, stating the message was “not a joke” and should be “taken seriously.”

What followed was a series of arrests in Hawaii.

In March, Miller was accused of causing a scene at a karaoke bar, allegedly shouting at patrons, grabbing a mic from a woman, and lunging at a man playing darts. They were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, later pleading no contest and paying a $500 fine.

That same month, a married couple filed a restraining order against Miller after claiming the actor burst into their bedroom, threatened to kill them, and stole a passport and wallet. The case was dropped two weeks later at the couple’s request.

But it didn’t end there. In April, Miller was arrested again, this time for allegedly hurling a chair at a 26-year-old woman after being asked to leave a private party, striking her in the head.

In 2022, Miller issued a public apology for their “past behavior” and said they were seeking help for “complex mental health issues.” But the list of incidents leading up to that moment is extensive.

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller told Variety at the time. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

One of the most serious accusations involved Tokata Iron Eyes, an indigenous activist who met Miller when she was 12 and they were 23. Her parents accused Miller of “corrupting a minor” and exhibiting “cult-like and psychologically manipulative” behavior. Though the petition was later withdrawn, the controversy haunted Miller’s reputation.

Tokata, now 21, has since toured with Miller in a band called Hundred In The Hand.

In response, Miller said, “I’m encouraged by today’s outcome and very grateful at this moment to everyone who has stood beside me and sought to ensure that this egregious misuse of the protective order system was halted.”

They didn’t hold back on the media either, slamming reporters in a statement:

“I implore those members of the media who have recklessly spread false claims and failed to accurately report the truth and context of this story, to hold themselves to a higher standard and take the time to find the facts, rather than chasing the clicks.”

Time will tell if this Cannes comeback is the beginning of a new chapter or just another plot twist in the ongoing saga of Ezra Miller.
