Re: “This is not the Israel America has long supported” (Aug. 3, Opinion):
I am sickened and revolted by the photos and stories coming out of Gaza. It’s become clear to me and the rest of the world that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is fixated on annihilating the Palestinian population through starvation, shooting them while attempting to find food and creating rubble from their homes. They are not collateral damage. They are the targets.
I resent the United States continuing to provide Israel with arms and money. What we are allowing with our support is legally questionable and we are enabling, not protecting, Netanyahu in his war. Israel is a highly developed country. It has come a long way since statehood and does not need the United States.
Our president has the leverage to have Netanyahu start the humanitarian aid previously provided by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East but, so far, he has only acknowledged the starvation. The current air drops are chaotic and unsustainable and do very little to relieve the starvation.
I support those in Congress who genuinely care enough to change course. We just can’t let Netanyahu continue his crusade.
